Our top tips for staying safe online!
🧑💻
Keep Your Personal Info Private!
Think of your personal info - like your address, phone number, school, and passwords - as something only you should share with people you really trust.
Even if someone online seems friendly, they might not be who they say they are. Keep your info private, and only share it with family or close friends you trust.
Tip: Ask yourself, “Would I tell this to a stranger in real life?” If the answer is no, don’t post it online.
📱
Think Before You Post
Everything you post online - photos, videos, comments - can stick around longer than you think.
Before posting, ask yourself:
Would my parents, teachers, or future self see this and be okay with it?
Could this embarrass me later?
Am I sharing too much personal info, like where I am or what I’m doing?
Posting responsibly helps you protect your online reputation and makes sure your profile reflects the awesome person you are.
Remember: If something online feels wrong, confusing, or unsafe, try and talk to a trusted adult straight away!
If you don’t want to speak to someone you know then you can always seek advice and support from a helpline. See the list of helplines for young people below.
There are some great helplines that offer support and advice specifically for young people on a range of issues. Services like Childline and The Mix provide guidance on anything that might be worrying or upsetting you, including online safety, cyberbullying, or concerns about social media. They’re there to listen, help you understand your options, and support you in staying safe online.

Be Careful With Who You Chat To
Not everyone online is who they seem, but most people are nice! Just remember to be smart about new friends.
How to stay safe:
Only accept friend requests from people you know in real life
If someone you don’t know messages you, take your time before responding
Be cautious if someone asks for photos, secrets, or personal details
If something feels uncomfortable, talk to a trusted adult. You don’t need to figure it out alone, they’ve got your back.

Spot Scams & Fake Links
Sometimes messages, links, or offers online aren’t what they seem. That’s okay - you can protect yourself with a little caution.
Watch out for:
“You’ve won a prize!” messages or “Click here fast!” links
Requests for money, passwords, or codes
Rule of thumb: If it feels suspicious or too good to be true, pause and ask an adult. It’s always okay to double-check -you’re being smart, not silly.
